Ceraunophilia

This is a single 30-second exposure of last night's lightning storm over my local area. The orange on the left is the light dome from St. George, Utah. I will tell you: this strike stretched my vocabulary a little.

Lightning Over Sand Hollow

Southern Utah was experiencing an unusually deep drought the year this was taken, and I'd been worried that I wouldn't get to shoot any lightning this season. This storm, however, was a true gift with more strikes than I think I've ever seen in a single night.

Sundance Ascending

A good friend of mine lost two horses to this storm: Sundance and her baby. The symbolism of the energy depicted here and the archway on the right seemed like a fitting tribute to them. It's hard to look at this one and not feel that the storm is staring back.

Electric Sand

I only had a few minutes to shoot here, because the sand was really starting to blow, but luckily, the lightning was so frequent, that's all it took.

War in Heaven

After an evening shooting the Toadstool Hoodoos in Utah, my friend and I retired for the night only to be awakened at 4am by a lightning storm the likes of which we had seldom seen. We jogged back to the hoodoos and spent the rest of the dark part of the morning shooting the lightning behind the formations. This is a stacked shot of two strikes.

Goodnight Kiss

My wonderful wife let me go chase lightning during this storm while she put our children to bed by herself. You can almost see her face in the clouds kissing the kids.

Monsoon

I'd been waiting for a good storm to come that would give me an opportunity to use this arch as a foreground. I finally got my chance in July of 2016.
